Syed Rais Nawab Rizvi was born in Allahabad and educated in the same city. He was proficient in English, Hindi, Urdu, Persian, and Russian languages. He liked Urdu poetry from the beginning and was close to Firaq Gorakhpuri, Shams-ur Rahman Farooqi, Ali Sardar Jafri, Basheer Badr, etc. He was also editor of Khoon for some time. His extensive All India Radio and Doordarshan career added to his creative insights. Kudos to his wife and daughter for compiling his poetic work after his death.
